“Helium”

“Helium” is Karl Vincent Roth’s first full-length release. Roth joined a songwriters group formed by Gregory Bogard in 2023, four years after he released his first EP - “Wits' End”. The group was tasked with writing a song a week, each having to include a lyrical prompt issued at the beginning of each week. Roth continued working with the group in 2024 and essentially began writing/producing “Helium”. Each week Karl would write/arrange/record the entire musical side of each production before writing & recording his lyrics. It was this new approach to writing that took “Helium” into a completely unanticipated musical space.

After Roth had singlehandedly recorded every part on every instrument & sung every lyric - he began to mix the album adding the stylistic quality and timbre that unifies each song. After the album was mixed to taste, Roth finally mastered it and began planning his release.

While this album stands as a testament to Roth’s many talents as a musician/producer, it also shines a light on Roth’s artistry as a singer/songwriter. The album is a rich, textural landscape of stacked strings, deep drums, ethereal echoes, and layered vocals. With this body of work, Roth succeeds in remaining vulnerable in his songwriting, while staying confident in his abilities as a producer, musician, and singer.

“It’s truly a body of work worthy of the time it took to make it, both in the recording studio and long before its conception.” -Karl Vincent Roth

“Helium” is a chance to drift into the depths of the atmosphere - all with your feet on the ground. And its just the beginning. Listen here!

The “Wits’ End EP” is Karl Vincent Roth’s first official release of his own music. Roth had written and recorded music for years, but never released it. After a longtime friend pushed Roth to finally go through with releasing an EP, Roth decided to go through with it and planned for a release in late 2019.

“Wits’ End” is a folkish, thought-provoking EP, full of rich texture and vulnerability. It stands as a solid foundation for what Roth would eventually end up creating and is still considered one of his most adored accomplishments.

Never-released music

While the “Wits’ End EP” might’ve been Roth’s first official release, he’s been writing and recording his own music for quite sometime now. All of these songs (with the exception of two covers) are original songs where Roth wrote, performed, recorded, and mixed them himself.

DJ Throwback

There was a time when Roth cut his teeth as a professional DJ in Chicago. Here are some original productions/mashups under the alias “Simple Minded Exploits” that come from those good ol’ days. This collection showcases Roth’s ability to play in other genres and still find his own voice.

Compositions

Roth also spends his time composing works inspired by his favorite classical composers. With a dream of one day scoring for film, composing is another of Roth’s many talents—and something he hopes to bring to his clients in need of instrumental arrangements.
